Mammut wins ISPO gold award with the worlds first climbing tracker

The Climbax climbing tracker was rewarded with the Gold Award by the international jury of experts due to its enormous innovative performance. The Tracker has been developed in cooperation with professional athletes taking account of specific climbing requirements. It consists of two armbands made from a breathable material and fitted with highly precise sensors which record every climbing movement. This information can then be used to work out various parameters, such as vertical meters, number of climbing moves, use of right or left hand, climbing and break times. The patented closing mechanism is flexible and adapts immediately in the event of any swelling in your forearm when climbing. After climbing, the tracking armbands can be connected to the smartphone, allowing the movement data to be analyzed using Mammut Smarttrack Technology. Climbers are thus able to check their performance and achievements in the Mammut Climb app, challenge themselves in competitions with other climbers and follow their progress.

First climbing rope, now t-shirt – Mammuts “Close the Loop” pilot project reduces climate impact

Mammut and the climate protection organization “Protect our Winters Switzerland” (POW) are taking the next step with the pilot project “Close the Loop”. The project was initiated in the spring of 2020 as part of the WE CARE sustainability strategy with the aim of reducing CO2 emissions and thus the impact on the climate. Calculations based on the so-called “Greenhouse Gas Protocol” had shown that climbing ropes accounted for almost 14 percent of CO2 emissions in 2018. This led to the “Close the Loop” project, where climbers in Switzerland could donate their discarded ropes. Within three months, 748 kilograms of rope material were collected, from which 1,000 t-shirts were made from recycled ECONYL® nylon. During production, the CO2 impact per t-shirt was reduced by 67 percent compared to traditional production. This resulted in a total saving of 5.41 tons of CO2. This amount corresponds to the average CO2 emissions of a car in one year. For Mammut, the “Close the Loop” pilot project is a concrete step on the way to climate-neutral production by 2050 as planned and is also to show that concepts for a circular economy can also be implemented in the outdoor industry.

Mammut Eiger Extreme

Mammut launches the fifth generation Eiger Extreme flagship collection. The live broadcast of the Eiger North Face Climb (Heckmair Route) by Mammut Pro Team athletes on Swiss television in 1999 marked the cornerstone of the Eiger Extreme flagship collection. Since over 25 years the collection has been inspiring ambitious mountaineers with outstanding quality and performance. The fifth generation for the coming winter season, which has just been introduced, uses the best and most innovative materials and technologies for EIGER X. The fabric used can handle extremes. Equipped with the “most rugged” technology, they can withstand any weather, are extremely robust, highly breathable and have excellent moisture and temperature management. The development was developed in close collaboration with the Mammut Pro Team athletes and incorporates over two decades of experience. The result is a high-performance product with a holistic design approach and enables mountaineering at the highest level.
